DOL’s What Is Overtime Whiteboard Explainer Worth Another Look
This Whiteboard Explainer: What is Overtime, posted by Heidi Shierholz on the DOL’s blog back on July 8, 2015, is not new, but I think it is worthy of posting now because it’s the simplest explanation I’ve seen of the proposed rule changes. Apparently others agree as the DOL included this video, along with four others, in its December 29, 2015 Flashback Top Videos of 2015. Its other four most popular videos of 2015 were:
White Board Explainer: Your Retirement Benefits
Equal Pay for Equal Work
Raise the Tipped Minimum Wage
Fastest Growing Occupations 2014-24
These videos also illustrate that the DOL has upped its communications game. Spend a few minutes on the DOL’s wage and hour website, and you may notice a common theme in the various archived videos, animated cartoons, and whiteboard drawings—everyone deserves a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work. So word to the wise for employers—get familiar with the DOL’s website and various social media pages and check in periodically to stay apprised of the tools and content that the Department publishing. You’ll get a good feel for the Department’s top issues, and you’ll be in the loop on what your employees may be hearing from the various communications published from the DOL. All things I preferred to be out in front of when I was a manager.
